Position: Head of Nestlé Food Safety Institute (雀巢食品安全研究院院长)

Unit: Nestle Food Safety Institute in R&D China 

Report to: Head of R&D China

Location: Beijing

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

As Head of our Nestlé Food Safety Institute in Beijing (China) your mission is to further develop new research collaboration partnerships in China leveraging Nestlé’s global expertise in food safety science.

Together with your team you will collaborate with external risk management agencies on the scientific foundation of food safety policies and standards, collaborate with local universities and research institutes in food safety research and represent Nestlé at scientific conferences and expert meetings. Main responsibilities includes:

· Lead the Nestlé Food Safety Institute ensuring vision, values and strategic development in the context of the Chinese business environment

· Ensure appropriate resourcing and delivery within the scope of agreed resources

· Collaborate with government agencies in China on scientific foundations of food safety policies and standards

· Develop collaborations with a network of local universities, research institutes, and government agencies in food safety research

· Active representation of Nestlé at scientific conferences and workshops and engagement in food safety training programmes

· Talent development and retention

· Support Corporate Affairs and Regulatory & Scientific Affairs functions in demonstrating commitment to food safety with the ultimate goal to emphasize Nestlé’s credibility and to support Nestlé’s brands

As Head of the Nestlé Food Safety Institute you report to the head of Nestlé R&D China Ltd. You will be guided by a steering committee of senior Nestlé managers and an advisory board of senior food safety leaders in China. A handover period with the current head covering several months and an induction program involving overseas training is foreseen.

KEY COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

· We expect you to have highly developed leadership and people development skills.

· Your initiative, results focus and a clear understanding of priorities are conditions to success in this role as well as your ability to convince and communicate mindfully. You should further bring proven insight in science and organizational matters of the food safety governance in China.

· Experience in managing a food safety research facility including laboratories is an asset as well as experience in working with research bodies of government authorities in China. In your past international working experience you have acquired profound cross-cultural communication skills. You actively build and use your professional network with food safety authorities and scientific organizations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· PhD degree in food science or related disciplines

· Five years scientific track-record in food safety science

· International studies or working experience

· Verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese

MOBILITY REQUIREMENTS

The role is based in Beijing, China. It demands international travel and a working day that accommodates global time zones occasionally. Mobility is desirable as long-term development opportunities within Nestlé might be outside the geographical location of the current position.

Position: Chemical Analytics Expert (化学分析专家)


Unit: Nestle Food Safety Institute in R&D China 

Report to: Group Manager

Location: Beijing


Main Responsibilities:

· As employee of the food safety institute, provide and develop expertise in analytical chemistry related to chemical food safety in collaboration with internal and external expert communities.

· Build and maintain expertise on scientific areas related to chemical food safety and analytical chemistry.

· Evaluate international and Chinese food safety standards and address gaps in analytical method portfolios.

· Build up and maintain expertise on rapid/alternative method and validation, in collaboration with NRC.

· Design and carry out analytical method development projects in cooperation with universities and technical bodies in China.

· Communicate efficiently with Chinese research/technical bodies on collaboration projects.

· Work efficiently in an international and remote food safety team.

· Contribute to the scientific strategy of the Nestle Food Safety Institute

· Contribute to budget planning and control

· Contribute to the development of junior experts

· Potentially, represent Nestlé in industrial association and in peer international events

· Participate to ad-hoc food safety crisis management teams. 

· As employee of the food safety institute, provide and develop expertise in analytical chemistry related to chemical food safety in collaboration with internal and external expert communities.

Requirements:

· Broad scientific knowledge in chemical food safety with a PhD in one of the following fields: food safety, analytical chemistry, and at least 2 years working experience.

· Experience in chemical food safety

· Proven knowledge in food safety and related regulatory standards.

· Verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese


Position: Scientific Affairs Specialist (科研事务专员)


Unit: Nestle Food Safety Institute in R&D China 

Report to: Head of Nestlé Food Safety Institute

Location: Beijing


Main Responsibilities:


· Assist Scientific Affairs manager in building relationship with relevant authorities and technical bodies on food safety in China with the aim to a) engage government and technical bodies for Early Warning, b) partner in developing analytical capabilities c) raise industrial food safety standard and awareness

· Assimilate, evaluate and communicate relevant scientific and regulatory intelligence information related to food safety standards in China to team and stakeholders.

· Keep abreast of Chinese and international regulatory (food safety) knowledge and share knowledge with staff and various functions. Establish a strong understanding of local food safety standards.

· As key member of cross-organisational projects teams on early warning and chemical food safety advice with know-how on food safety standards.

· Participate in industry working groups. Participate in discussion with local authorities on specific issues

· Organize seminars, conferences and trainings on food safety.

Requirements:

· Minimum 1 year experience in a regulatory environment.

· Successful executed regulatory activities in a strategic project

· Established contact with authorities and successful influencing authorities on a key topic.

· Ability to connect with government and technical authorities

· Ability to organise events

· Efficient presentation and communication skills in both English and Chinese

· Knowledge in chemical food safety with a MSc or PhD in one of the following fields: Food science, food safety, analytical chemistry, and at least 2 years working experience.

· Proven knowledge in food safety and related regulatory standards.

Position: Nutrition Scientist (营养学研究员)


Unit: Nestlé Research Centre Beijing (NRC Beijing) 

Report to: Head of NRC Beijing

Location: Beijing


Main Responsibilities:

· Participate in the planning and execution of studies to better understand the dietary intake patterns, nutritional needs and related lifestyle factors that influence the health of infants, toddlers and children in China

· Contribute to preparation of presentations and publications on food and nutrient intake from the studies; assist business partners to communicate results with Key Opinion Leaders

· Identify, critically analyze, and draw conclusions from findings of scientific studies in the field of nutrition and translate them into actionable recommendations to key stakeholders

· Provide nutritional guidance through early involvement in R&D projects

· Guarantee appropriate nutrition insight to support Nestlé’s Nutrition Health and Wellness strategy and communication

· Actively collaborate with the Nutrition Network to transfer nutritional knowledge throughout R&D and into the markets

· Anticipate nutritional issues and propose possible actions to mitigate their consequences or to identify opportunities.

Requirements:

· PhD in Nutrition science, epidemiology, public health or related field

· 2-3 years of an experience in conducting research on dietary patterns or food intake with exposure to nutritional epidemiology methods and analysis

· Good understanding of food science and/or technology

· Successful track record of publications

· Experience in scientific systematic reviews and writing of scientific documents

· Excellent written and oral presentation skills in Chinese & English



Position: Associate Research Scientist of Public Health and Nutrition (助理研究员——公共健康与营养)


Unit: Nestlé Research Centre Beijing (NRC Beijing) 

Report to: Head of NRC Beijing

Location: Beijing


Main Responsibilities:

· To lead research in the field of public health and nutrition

· To support scientific research competences in First 1000 Days and Healthy Kids program and Health Ageing program in NRC by leveraging insights and findings from public health and nutrition, epidemiology. 

· To build up scientific reputation of Nestlé through publication and building of research network

· The incumbent will work to strengthen public health and nutrition competence in Nestlé Research Centre Beijing. The candidate is expected:

· To conduct both primary or/and secondary data analysis and interpret results from nutrition and health survey, and independently apply and implement basic and complex techniques to these analyses.

· To propose, lead, manage, and drive R&D projects activities with cross-function stakeholders.

· To collaborate with internal and external experts in the field of public health and nutrition studies.

· To help manage internal and external projects in research institutions and universities in China and surrounding region.

· To write and publish internal reports, and collaborate in writing scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.

· To work with people in market, business, regulatory agents and professional organizations and to maintain a good research network.

Requirements:

· PhD in public health or closely related field with oversea research experience

· To be able to independently develop hypothesis, design protocol and execute project internally and externally (i.e., in contract facilities)

· To demonstrate good tracking record or research productivity as evidenced by publication of reports or publications in maternal and infant nutrition, and chronic disease management. 

· The possession of demonstrated experience with statistical learning methods, data mining techniques and algorithms is definitely a plus.

· To enjoy team-oriented research environment and business-driven creativity and innovation

· To possess good verbal and written communication skills in English and Chinese.


Position: Product Development Specialist – Fat & Oil (油脂类产品开发专家)

Unit: R&D Shanghai 

Report to: Department Manager

Location: Shanghai


Main Responsibilities:


· Lead product development projects to deliver innovative and competitive products and processes/systems in time and with agreed quality to the business.

· Drive Innovation and Renovation as active partner in the category driver team

· Develop category specific roadmaps

· Ensure on-time and on-quality delivery of project results

· Capacity to discriminate between different oils and fats, to evaluate stability, physical and chemical properties and potential risks for the different culinary applications. Understanding of fats/oils role in culinary product.Ability to communicate and negotiate product technical requirements with suppliers.

· Awareness that fats and oils in culinary are critical ingredients and in product developments a technical assessment to achieve shelf life, proper processability and sensory should be always done.

· Understanding of the meaning of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Knowledge on how to handle in a proper way fats and oils in order to avoid oxidation.

· Able to select approprate fat/oil for respective product development and understanding of potential risks. Knowledge on suitable antioxidants.

· Understanding of the structure of the most common triacylglycerides, why it is better to avoid certain oils and fats and able to discuss with suppliers some variations in their process in order to get what is specifically important for our project.

· Know-how on current available technologies to produce fats, refineries , mills and plantations visited. Supply chain of several fats and oils and relative issues understood. Up to date on legislation and awareness of future challenges in this field.


Requirements:

· Master or PhD in food science, food technology or food engineering

· 2 years+ experience in the edible Fats and Oils industry , with specific knowledge in the area of hydrogenated vegetable fats and oils production and their use in food related products

· Experienced in supporting factories in introduction of new fat blends and the development of new fat ingredients with external suppliers

· Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams as well as in an international environment

· Computer literacy in MS Office, knowledge in SAP R/3 considered an advantage

· Curiosity, initiative, result and service orientation 

· Team spirit, motivation and organizational skills

· Fluent in English with good communication skills, other languages considered as an advantage
